In June 2015, the Golden State Wind Orchestra was founded by Marlon A. Ramirez. Recently graduated from the Sacramento State Universty's Music Department, Mr. Ramirez desired to put his skills to use by starting a group of his own. Starting with his esteemed colleagues from CSUS as staff and ensemble, the ensemble quickly grew to include professional musicians from the area.
We are currently in the process of being granted non profit 501(c)(3) status. In the meantime, we take donations though the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commision. Read here to learn more.
The GSWO currently rehearses at Cosumnes River College.
To advocate the benefits of wind music through performance, outreach and education
The Golden State Wind Orchestra's purpose is to provide symphonic music at the utmost degree of distinction, performance opportunities for area musicians, outreach and educational programs to local children and academic institutions, and the cultural benefits of a symphonic wind ensemble to the local community. By exposing the local public to music making of the highest quality, it can serve as a direct means to educate the public in the humanities, and indirectly serve as a recruitment tool for the universities and community colleges in the greater Sacramento area.
